Fanarchy In The U.S.

In the spring of 2015, I was asked to do an interview for a new documentary, Fanarchy, by noted filmmaker Donna Davies. The flick explores the world of fan films—something I’m familiar with thanks to my book, Homemade Hollywood—and it takes on a variety of themes, from what drives people to make the films to the effect that these curious movies may have on Hollywood and copyright law. Fanarchy debuted that summer on Epix and then later on Netflix, and is currently making the rounds at various film festivals in North America. While I’m obviously biased because I’m in it, the movie serves as a nice introduction to the industrious subculture of fan filmmaking.
